GET TO KNOW SUMMIT PSYCHOLOGY

Hello,

I’m Dr. Jeanne Layne

Welcome to Summit Psychology, PLLC, the private practice of Jeanne A. Layne, PhD. I’m a clinical psychologist located in Trenton, Michigan, and I serve the metro Detroit and downriver communities. I’m a therapist with a contagious sense of humor, I love a good coincidence, I’ll take a strong cup of coffee any day over tea, and I’m something of a planner. But there’s another part of me that’s a “jump into the deep end to learn to swim” kind of person. In the psychology business, we call this “counterphobic.” What it really means is that I tend to charge full-steam ahead towards the things that make me the most anxious.

Case in point: my professional training. I vowed to put myself into the most rigorous and challenging educational and training situations I could find – places and people that took me out of my comfort zone. As a result, I have worked with some of the toughest patient populations in the Metro Detroit area.

I have over twenty years experience in the Courts, hospital emergency rooms, trauma centers, juvenile detention facilities, adult jails, long-term care facilities and dementia units. I have performed over 2,000 psychological evaluations and have worked with folks struggling with severe and chronic mental illness, juvenile offenders, an adult correctional population, traumatic brain injuries, victims of violent crime and acute trauma, advanced dementia and geriatric populations with serious medical complications.

While I have not seen it all, I have seen plenty. Behind each of these descriptive categories were real people struggling with genuine pain, many of whom were at the lowest point in their lives. Over the years, I’ve learned that I don’t mind accompanying patients into the deep end …. where the sadness, fear, loss, anger and isolation are. Because I’ve also learned that it is the privilege of a lifetime when someone in pain trusts you enough to let you sit with them, hear their story and eventually accompany them as they learn to move through and out of their darkest days. I like to believe that the result of these life experiences has shaped a therapist who can sit with the toughest emotions, talk about the most difficult topics and still find a way to appreciate the humor in things, see potential and stay unflinchingly hopeful … all over a good cup of coffee.

My Approach & Values

Summit Psychology, PLLC as a private psychology practice naturally took shape based on the foundations of kindness, abundance, interconnectedness, inclusion, generosity and service to others. I’m on a mission to make therapy do-able, and I believe to my core that those most in need of mental health treatment should be afforded services when they need it the most. One of every four patients at Summit Psychology, PLLC is seen at a significantly discounted rate. Military servicepersons (active duty and veterans) and teachers hold a special place in my heart, and these groups are afforded reduced rates as an expression of gratitude for their sacrifices and contributions to others’ well-being. My psychotherapy practice attracts a wide range of people who seek emotional relief from various issues including, but not limited to: anxiety and stress, relational difficulties, complicated grief, parenting issues, burnout/depletion, marital distress and the angst sometimes associated with mid-life changes and challenges. I seem to have an affinity for working with women who have, for various reasons, reached the point of depletion. I feel privileged and honored to do work that I find so life-changing.

Special rates are always offered to military servicepersons (active duty and veterans) and teachers.

One in four patients at Summit Psychology PLLC is seen at significantly reduced rates.

Our wounds are often the openings into the best and most beautiful part of us.
